The wait is over. Starting today, Friday 18 September 2026, Apple's most powerful iPhone yet hits shelves in more than 65 countries and regions around the world.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are officially on sale — and there's a lot packed inside, along with a few important catches European buyers should know about.

THE KEY DATES

→ Unveiled: 9 September 2026
→ Pre-orders opened: 12 September 2026
→ On sale worldwide: Today, 18 September 2026

It launches alongside a new Apple Watch lineup and AirPods 5.

WHAT'S NEW — THE HEADLINE FEATURES

The A20 Pro Chip
Built on a cutting-edge 2-nanometer process, with a 6-core CPU and around 50% more memory bandwidth than last year. It's the fastest chip Apple has ever put in a phone.

The Variable-Aperture Camera
The 48MP Fusion main camera introduces a physical variable aperture — a first for iPhone. Like a professional DSLR, it can adjust how much light enters, giving you optical background blur for portraits or full sharpness for landscapes.

Better Cooling
A next-generation vapor chamber keeps the phone fast during heavy use, without the overheating that plagued older models.

Apple's Own Modem
For the first time, the iPhone 18 Pro drops Qualcomm and uses Apple's own C2 cellular modem — a major step in Apple controlling its own hardware.

iOS 27 and the New Siri
The phones ship with iOS 27, featuring a rebuilt, smarter Siri.

THE PRICE

→ iPhone 18 Pro: starts at $1,199 — and offers a 2TB storage option for the first time
→ iPhone 18 Pro Max: starts at $1,299

That's a $100 increase over last year's iPhone 17 Pro models. European buyers should check local pricing, which includes VAT and tends to run higher than US dollar prices.

THE CATCH FOR EUROPEAN BUYERS

Here's the important detail if you're in the EU: the new Siri AI features will NOT be available in the European Union at launch.

This is due to the EU's strict digital regulations, which have repeatedly delayed Apple's AI rollout in the bloc. So while the hardware is identical, European users will get a less capable Siri than their American counterparts — at least for now. It's the latest chapter in the ongoing tension between Apple and EU regulators.

WHAT'S NOT LAUNCHING TODAY

Apple has split its release calendar this year:

→ The standard, cheaper iPhone 18 arrives in spring 2027
→ The foldable "iPhone Duo" (starting at $1,999) goes on sale 23 October

So today is strictly a Pro-model launch.

SHOULD YOU BUY IT?

→ Coming from an iPhone 15 Pro or older? The jump in chip speed, camera quality, battery, and cooling is significant. It's a worthwhile upgrade.

→ Coming from an iPhone 17 Pro? The gains are more incremental. The variable-aperture camera is the standout reason to consider it.

→ In the EU? Factor in the missing Siri AI features before you decide.

THE BOTTOM LINE

The iPhone 18 Pro isn't a radical redesign — it's a refinement of the things that matter most: speed, camera, battery, and cooling. For photography enthusiasts and power users, the variable-aperture camera and blazing A20 Pro chip make it a genuine leap.

Just remember, if you're buying in Europe, the smartest phone in your pocket will be slightly less smart than Apple intended — thanks to Brussels, not Cupertino.
